30 Million e-Challans issued through PITB’s e-Ticketing System

Lahore, November 05, 2019 (PPI-OT): More than 30 million (31,185,316) e-Challans have been issued through Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB)’s e-Ticketing system developed for National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP). This information was revealed during a progress review meeting chaired by Chairman PITB Azfar Manzoor on Tuesday. The meeting was informed that the approximate daily average challans are 36,672 including 23,252 HTV and 10,420 LTV. National Highways and Motorways Police Ticketing System reported challan devices registered are around 90 while officers registered as Dashboard users are 200 while total count of helps extended by NHMP to citizens is 20,787,760.

It was also informed that the e-Ticketing App has been improved and additional features have been incorporated in the System, which include Officers helping with Pictures Module, Accident tagging with Pictures Module and Fine Reconciliation. NHMP with the help of PITB has already made 84 beats completely operational. The collected stats from this system shows Most frequent offenses include B61 that is Weak Tyres, Driving Without Seat Belt, Mobile phone use, Broken side mirror, Improper light, Other has been reported 205,668 in this year, whereas Improper lane usage (B56) has gone to 173,305. The driving without helmet, offence B43 are 157,851, Careless Driving B49, 110414, improper load of goods offence B39 are 88,700 and B41 Obstructing Traffic are reported 83,585 times.

The technology oriented device was developed in June 2015 and its first trial was conducted in August 2015 and after further necessary improvements in the system it is operative all over the country. The system data also collects details of the vehicles, accidents, date of the incident, habitual violators, and real time location of time stamp, accident analysis, causes and the person involved, which is a big leap ahead through technology.

Three days left to apply for Launchpad 14

Lahore, November 01, 2019 (PPI-OT): All the tech trailblazers who are capable of doing extraordinary things in sectors like e-commerce, EdTech, FinTech, IoT, Mobile, Hardware, and others can apply for the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB)’s project Plan9 Launchpad Cycle 14, as deadline 3rd November 2019 is approaching.

With more than 180 startups graduated and 13 cycles later Plan9 incubator has built an impact with startups by raising more than $5.3m investment, creating more than 1200 plus jobs and $75mil accumulated evaluation of all the startups. With Launchpad 14 around the corner, the motto “MakeIdeasHappen” is being promoted rigorously for the ‘Futurepreneurs’ to take part in the Launchpad. Launchpad takes place across three major cities of Pakistan including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad along with Multan, Faisalabad and Gujranwala introduced as a station this year. Business Registration increased by 17% in Lahore

Lahore, October 22, 2019 (PPI-OT): Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB)’s developed Business Registration Portal (business.punjab.gov.pk) in collaboration with Industries Department has registered 18,513 businesses since its launch in 2018.

The portal reveals growing trend of business registrations, according to the statistics; the number of businesses registered in first quarter of 2019-20 were 2,493 as compared to 2,131 in Q1 of 2018-19, showing a massive 17 percent increase for this year. Moreover, there were 10,858 partnership firm registrations with Industries department, 1,911 registrations with Punjab Employees Social Security Institutions (PESSI) and 5,744 shops and establishment registrations with Labour Department, setting new paradigm.

Business Registration Portal is a practical translation of Government’s ‘Ease of Doing Business’ plan. The Portal’s integration with Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) in the federal, Industries Department, Labour Department, PESSI and Excise and Taxation at the provincial level makes it effective in time and cost saving; providing ease to Public in Business Registrations. After the pilot of this project in Lahore, it is now being extended to other districts of Punjab.

e-Rozgaar X Google – Developers Celebration Event

Lahore, October 22, 2019 (PPI-OT): The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and Youth Affairs, Sports, Archeology and Tourism (YASAT)’s joint project, “e-Rozgaar Program” featured with Google, trained about 890 candidates in Google Mobile Sites certification. Google Developer Expert in collaboration with PITB performed two test sessions in Lahore centers with help from e-Rozgaar and later held a ToT (Training of Trainers) at e-Rozgaar head office that trained developers in centers across Punjab.

To celebrate this triumph, e-Rozgaar and Google held a celebration event at Arfa Software Technology Park. Sami Kizilbash Developer Relations Program Manager Google, Raza Matin Marketing Consultant Google and Saad Hamid Community Manager Google, graced the ceremony with their presence. Before the event, the Google team met Mr. Azfar Manzoor Chairman PITB, Mr. Sajid Latif Director General e-Governance, Mr. Salman Amin Director Entrepreneurship and Mr. Ahmad Islam Senior Program Manager e-Rozgaar to discuss how PITB and Google can have more of such collaborations in future to empower the youth.

While delivering the welcome note, Senior Program Manager e-Rozgaar Mr. Ahmad Islam stated “I feel honoured to announce that in the period of 3 weeks Google and e-Rozgaar trained hundreds of developers in center across Punjab. The initial objective was set on training 500 certified developers that ended up on 890 developers trained in record time.”

Sami Kizilbash, Developer Relations Program Manager at Google Asia Pacific while delivering his talk said “Well done and heartiest congratulations to all our certified developers, and may their success open up even more freelancing and other related economic opportunities for everyone. Also, a special thank you to our valued partner e-Rozgaar for not only meeting but greatly exceeding the original target of this program”.

Director Entrepreneurship Mr. Salman Amin, then took the podium to deliver the closing note and congratulated his team for their efforts. Sharing the stats with the audience he said “Out of total 1070 developers that attended Google mobile site certification, 890 has passed and are awarded the certification. The strength consists of 52% females that is 471 out of 827, shows how females are exceeding in every department in our country.”

He further said that “We have certified total of 890 developers that is 178% of the original goal set by our team. To achieve this result, Google approached us to align for this campaign and local GDE was found for the campaign to get them certified on mSite. GDE later performed two test sessions in Lahore hubs and did a ToT at e-Rozgaar head quarter. These 63 trained e-Rozgaar trainers then conducted trainings in their e-Rozgaar centers across Punjab at 18 labs in 14 cities.”

In his concluding remarks he said, I believe, if the greatest achievements of PITB ever be written, this accomplishment will definitely make its place in that list. A very exciting quiz activity was also conducted at the celebration event and the winners were given e-Rozgaar and Google’s co-branded giveaways. The session ended on a group photo of the PITB and Google officials with all attendees.

OCAS Receives 272,372 Applications for Intermediate Admissions in 713 Colleges across Punjab

Lahore, October 15, 2019 (PPI-OT): Online College Admissions System (OCAS) developed by Punjab Information Technology Board in collaboration with the Higher Education Department of Punjab has received a total of 272,372 online admission applications in 711 colleges across Punjab, so far, of which 71,848 were processed via Bank of Punjab. OCAS has processed intermediate admission applications for programs such as Pre-Medical, Engineering, and ICS for 2019-20 Intermediate Admissions cycle. More influx female students has been observed in public colleges as compared to males. 142,592 female candidates applied as compared to 129,771 male students till date.

This trend was observed in yesteryears as well. The online statistics also noted that 70 % female students applied for admission in F.Sc. Pre Medical while only 30 % male students applied in this discipline albeit in F.Sc. Pre Engineering the ration turned 64, 36 % male and female students respectively. For FA subject 61% female students and 39 % male students applied. Other subject’s ratio include ICS 58 % male 42 % female, I. Com 69 % male 31 % female, D. Com 92 % male 8 % female, however for General Science 57 % female and 43 % male students applied. The maximum number of 9,104 admission applications were received by Government Islamia College Civil lines Lahore.

The statistics show that male students are interested in Pre engineering, ICS, I. Com and D. Com subjects while female students have higher interest in Pre Medical, FA and General Science. The salient features of OCAS include 24/7 access, apply from any place with internet access, track admissions application status via college website, integration with BISE results, minimizing data entry and reducing errors. Free of cost availability of college broachers and online admission forms is an added feature of the system while it has considerably reduced the visits of students and their parents to colleges, ensuring timely compilation of applications and merit list.
