A high-level meeting was held here at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Headquarters on Friday under the chairmanship of Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, regarding the construction of a modern slaughterhouse in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The meeting was attended by CDA Board Members, Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, representatives from the Islamabad district administration, and other senior officials.
During the briefing, officials informed the attendees about the plan to meet the growing meat demands of the twin cities through the establishment of a state-of-the-art slaughterhouse.
The Chairman stated that this initiative is being undertaken in accordance with the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
The meeting was briefed that the slaughterhouse will have extensive capacity for animal slaughtering along with modern facilities, including chilling rooms and cold storage to ensure proper meat preservation. It was further informed that the preliminary feasibility study for the project has been completed.
Chairman CDA directed the concerned departments to develop a robust financial model for the slaughterhouse and to engage the private sector in order to encourage competitive business models.
He emphasized that the project should be designed in line with international standards, considering the per capita meat consumption of the twin cities.
He also instructed that a comprehensive assessment of meat demand and supply in Islamabad and Rawalpindi be conducted. Additionally, he proposed the formation of a unified “Meat Board” comprising all stakeholders from both cities.
The Chairman advised studying successful models from slaughterhouses in Karachi and Lahore for guidance. To ensure quality control, Chairman Randhawa called for the development of a joint monitoring mechanism involving officers from both Islamabad and Rawalpindi administrations.
He stressed that the ultimate goal is to ensure the supply of high-quality, hygienic meat in accordance with health and safety standards.
Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi assured full cooperation and stated that the administrations of both Rawalpindi and Islamabad will work jointly to implement the slaughterhouse project effectively.
Earlier, another important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Muhammad Ali Randhawa at CDA Headquarters to review the efforts for polio eradication in the twin cities.
The meeting decided to form a joint team comprising representatives from CDA, ICT, RDA, PHA, and other relevant institutions to target high-risk areas in boundary regions of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Chairman Randhawa directed that the administrations of both cities must work as one unit to combat polio. He emphasized that all laboratories, hospitals, and dispensaries in Islamabad must immediately report any polio cases to the relevant authorities.
He further instructed that the shortage of human resources in the anti-polio campaign should be addressed without delay. In conclusion, the Chairman reiterated his commitment to making Islamabad and Rawalpindi polio-free cities.
