Children should be vaccinated against measles and other ‘dangerous infectious’ viruses: Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Yousuf Sheikh on Tuesday appealed to parents to get their children vaccinated against the ‘dangerous’ and ‘contagious’ measles virus, highlighting immunization as the only effective protection.

The call to action came during a high-level meeting at Latif Hall, chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, to review the status of various ongoing health programs throughout the district.

The session focused on the progress of several key public health initiatives, including the anti-polio campaign, the monthly performance of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), and the steering committee”s work on the Measles-Rubella (MR) and bivalent Oral Polio Vaccine (bOPV) drives.

Health Department representatives provided a detailed briefing to the attendees, covering aspects such as overall program performance, immunization coverage ratios, disease surveillance systems, and the operational effectiveness of field staff.

Commending the efforts of the Health Department, Mr. Sheikh emphasized that all concerned departments must work in unison to ensure the vaccination campaigns are a complete success. He declared that inoculating every child, preventing diseases, and enhancing public awareness are the foremost priorities for the district administration.

He reiterated his plea for parents to act responsibly and cooperate fully with the administration”s health teams to safeguard children from preventable illnesses.

The review was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner-II Matiari Iqra Jannat, District Health Officer Asif Hussain Shah, and officers from other relevant departments.
