(City): Sixth to eighth class schools’ reopening delayed

Karachi:Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani announced on Friday that the reopening of sixth, seventh and eighth class schools in the Sindh province had been delayed by 28th September due to educational institutes’ failure to implement SOPs in real manner and fear of rise in the Covid-19 cases.

These schools will now be opened from September 28 instead of Sept 21 in case Covid situation improves and SOPs are implemented strictly by the schools, he said while addressing a press conference in Karachi. The minister said that no compromise would be made on the health of children, adding another decision about opening of these schools would be reviewed before September 28.

The education minister said that the government schools were also not taking full precautions, however, their situation was much better as compared to private schools. He informed that four schools were sealed off yesterday due to violation of SOPs.

After over a six-month closure due to Covid-19 pandemic, educational institutions, including 9th and 10th class schools, reopened across Sindh province on Sept 15 on the condition of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) enforcement.

In the first phase, schools started classes from 9th to 10th in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Larkana, Sukkur and Shaheed Benazirabad Divisions of Sindh province. It was earlier decided that the classes from sixth to eighth will begin from September 21 while nursery to primary classes will start from September 28 after compliance with SOPs.

The colleges, higher education institutes and universities have also started reopening in phases after compliance with SOPs in accordance with the last week decision of the inter-provincial education ministers’ conference.
