Court extends physical remand of PTI’s Swati by one day

KARACHI: A court in Islamabad on Saturday extended the physical remand of PTI leader Azam Swati in ‘controversial tweets’ case by one more day, and ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to again produce him tomorrow.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had sought eight-day physical remand of Swati. The FIA had arrested senior PTI leader and former federal minister, Senator Azam Swati from his Chak Shahzad residence in Islamabad in a late-night raid a day before yesterday (Thursday).

Confirming the development, Babar Awan said the government had arrested Swati in the dark of the night. The FIA wasted no time and produced the PTI leader before district and sessions court in Islamabad and sought seven-day physical remand of the former minister. However, Senior Civil Judge Shabbir Bhatti approved physical remand for two days and directed the FIA to produce the accused on the next hearing after his complete medical check-up.
