Court: (SC orders creation of 11-member ad-hoc committee to run PMDC)

ISLAMABAD:The Supreme Court on Friday ordered creation of an 11-member ad-hoc committee to run the affairs of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

The court passed this order on a petition filed by the federal government seeking removal of the PMDC Registrar. Justice Ijazul Ahsan read out the short order, reserved earlier on Wednesday. The court ruled that the 11-member ad-hoc committee will be headed by a retired judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan.

While, its’ Members will include the Attorney General for Pakistan, Surgeon General of Pakistan, Vice-Chancellors of National University of Medical Services, University of National Health Services, Sindh Jinnah Medical University, Khyber Medical University, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University, Bolan Medical University and Principal of de’Montmorency College of Dentistry.

Meanwhile, the court dismissed a plea moved by the employees of PMDC seeking initiation of contempt of court proceedings against the government for not implementing the Islamabad High Court’s Feb 11, 2020 verdict, restoring the PMDC, while setting aside a presidential ordinance, which had created an alternative body called the Pakistan Medical Council (PMC).
