Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi praised the services of frontline staff in the anti-polio campaign and announced on Saturday that the government has decided to give awards to vaccinators who perform best in the anti-polio campaign. According to city officials, authorities in Karachi have identified “extremely high-risk” areas and are implementing special measures to deal with cases of missed children and parental refusals for polio vaccination. This targeted strategy aims to overcome the obstacles in the ongoing efforts to eradicate this crippling disease.
Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi said that recent measures have yielded positive results, leading to a significant reduction in the number of families refusing vaccination. He credited this progress to the city-wide strategy implemented under the guidance of the provincial leadership, including the Chief Minister of Sindh and the Chief Secretary.
A key component of this strategy is a new support team established under the direction of Chief Secretary Syed Asif Hyder Shah. This team, comprising officers from various government departments and elected representatives, is playing a crucial role in removing obstacles and effectively handling refusal cases.
The Commissioner confirmed the identification of several “extremely high-risk” zones within the city. He mentioned his personal visits to areas like Muzaffarabad Colony in Korangi to meet directly with parents and community members, describing their cooperation as encouraging despite the existing challenges.
