(District): Citizens demand audit of last five years’ CMCH budget

Larkana:The members of a social welfare organization “Paigan-e-Quran” held a large protest demonstration here on Saturday at Jinnah Bagh against the closed OPDs, laboratories, x-rays etc. of Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH) due to the strike by the members of Pakistan Paramedical Staff Association due to which poverty-stricken patients of rural Sindh are suffering very badly since past 20 days.

Suleman Khokhar, Ghulam Hyder Korai and others while talking to the media said that all OPDs of CMCH have been forcibly closed by the so called paramedic leaders but nobody has so far taken any action against them which is really astonishing. They said the worst affected are those poor needy patients who come here daily from far flung and remote areas of various districts and return back empty without getting themselves either examined or to get medical treatment for various ailments. They said patients are being forced to go to private medical centers which is unjust. They urged the higher Sindh Government authorities to take notice of the issue and resolve it without loss of further time.

Meanwhile, CMCH paramedical staff members continued their protest at Civil Hospital after closing down all the OPDs, laboratories, x-ray departments of the major tertiary care hospital. They were demanding replacement of Medical Superintendent Dr. Ershad Hussain Kazmi. Zamir Sangi, Munwar Mangi, Abdul Jabbar Narejo, Ghulam Hussain Langah, Ghulam Mustafa Kalhoro and others alleged that the attitude of the MS is very rough which cannot be tolerated hence he may be replaced by a grade 20 general cadre doctor.

On the other hand, insiders told this Scribe that members of the paramedics association are involved in theft of laboratory material due to which no lab tests were conducted at the labs in the past. Likewise, they further alleged that x-ray films are also stolen which always resulted in unavailability of x-ray films and their members were also allegedly involved in making the x-ray machines dysfunctional which brought bad name to the Hospital.

They further claimed that the present MS has taken drastic actions due to which their misdeeds have stopped hence they have launched a movement against him. They said over 16 CCTV cameras have been installed at the Central Store of the Hospital hence theft of medicines have also come to an end which is why the protests have been held to get rid of the strict MS so that their old business could flourish again.

The citizens have also demanded thorough inquiry into the hospital affairs of the last five years along with an audit of the last five year’s budget which will expose many hidden hands and to find the truth.
