Chaman:A levies constable deputed for security of polio workers sustained injuries after unidentified armed men opened fire in Killi Hassan Thekadar area of Chaman, bordering city with Afghanistan, on Sunday; however, polio workers remained unhurt.

Assistant Commissioner, Chaman Zakaullah Durrani said that armed men opened fire on lady polio workers at that time when they were administering anti-polio drops to remaining children of Killi Hassan Thekadar.

Due to firing, one levies constable namely Muhammad Sadiq sustained injuries who was shifted to Civil Hospital Chaman where after providing initial treatment, he was referred to Quetta for further treatment.

Assistant Commissioner Durrani further said that search operation for apprehending perpetrators of the crime has been started. Moreover, Health Department has postponed polio vaccination campaign indefinitely across the district after firing incident on polio workers.
