District Lauded for Historic Dengue Reduction and Sustained Polio-Free Status

Health authorities in the district today achieved a landmark success in public health, slashing the number of dengue cases from 6,606 in 2024 to just 1,586 in 2025, it was announced on Monday. The accomplishment was celebrated alongside another significant milestone-15 consecutive years of remaining free from polio.

The dual triumphs were commemorated at a “Celebration of Success” ceremony held at PC Rawalpindi, where Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, Barrister Danyal Chaudhry, paid tribute to the district administration and health officials for their strategic vision and persistent efforts.

Addressing an assembly of health professionals, frontline workers, and community representatives, the parliamentary secretary attributed the unprecedented decline in dengue infections to sustained anti-dengue campaigns, effective community mobilisation, and the dedicated work of health teams operating across the district.

“This victory belongs to the sanitation workers who drained stagnant water under the scorching sun, to the health teams who went door to door educating families, and to an administration that made public health its highest priority,” he stated.

The event also marked Rawalpindi’s remarkable 15-year period of being polio-free, an achievement described as a legacy built on the unwavering commitment of healthcare providers and public cooperation.

Officials further noted that the district has set a national benchmark by recording 100 percent Lot Quality Assurance Sampling (LQAS) results in its last five consecutive immunisation drives.

Looking ahead, Barrister Danyal urged all stakeholders to maintain the momentum, with the ultimate goals of completely eliminating dengue and extending the polio-free legacy indefinitely. “Rawalpindi has shown the way,” he concluded. “Let the rest of the nation follow.”
