Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) has joined the global initiative Changing Diabetes in Children (CDIC), a program designed to provide comprehensive care to children with Type 1 diabetes.
The collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony at the National Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology (NIDE), DUHS said on Friday.
Under the CDIC program, children registered will receive free insulin, glucometers, and glucose test strips. Following the MoU signing, a dedicated clinic was inaugurated at NIDE to support the initiative.
The MoU was signed by Prof Abdul Basit from the Health Promotion Foundation (HPF) and Dr Ashar Afaq, Registrar of Dow University of Health Sciences.
CDIC operates in 18 countries through a partnership between Novo Nordisk and Roche. The program has been active in Pakistan for three years, with 26 centers established nationwide. NIDE is now the 27th center to join.
During the event, Dr Mussarat Riaz, Director of NIDE, expressed that this partnership demonstrates a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for children with Type 1 diabetes in Pakistan.
