ISLAMABAD:The Election Commission of Pakistan on Monday formally de-notified 25 Punjab Assembly members (MPAs) of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) through a notification after their disqualification for voting Hamza Shahbaz for the chief ministership.
Their votes led to Hamza to become Punjab chief minister by securing 197 votes against 186 votes required for chief ministership slot. Among those de-notified, 20 were elected on general seats, three on reserved seats for women and two on minority quota.
The de-seated MPAs are Raja Sagheer Ahmed, Malik Ghulam Rasool Sangha, Saeed Akbar Khan, Mohammad Ajmal, Abdul Aleem Khan, Nazir Ahmed Chohan, Mohammad Amin Zulqernain, Malik Nauman Langrial, Mohammad Salman, Zawar Hussain Warraich, Nazir Ahmed Khan, Fida Hussain, Zahra Batool, Mohammad Tahir, Aisha Nawaz, Sajida Yousaf, Haroon Imran Gill, Uzma Kardar, Malik Asad Ali, Ijaz Masih, Mohammad Sabtain Raza, Mohsin Atta Khan Khosa, Mian Khalid Mehmood, Mehar Mohammad Aslam and Faisal Hayat.
The Election Commission of Pakistan hereby de-notify the following members Provincial Assembly of Punjab from the respective constituencies in terms of Article 63A(4) of the constitution,” says the ECP notification.
Earlier in the day, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) approached the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to issue a notification for the de-seating of the dissident members of the Punjab Assembly (MPAs) besides also barring Hamza Shahbaz from working as chief minister.
On May 20, the ECP had announced that the MPs who voted against the party line were liable to be de-seated according to the law. Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had sent a reference to the ECP against 25 PTI lawmakers. It is reported that four de-seated MPAs belong to Asad Khokhar group, five to Aleem Khan group and 16 to Jahangir Khan Tareen group.
