Amid growing geopolitical instability in the region involving Iran, Israel and the US, Pakistan’s top edible oil manufacturers body has stepped in to allay concerns of a potential shortage, today assuring that the nation has a secure supply of ghee and oil for two months
Sheikh Umer Rehan, Chairman of the Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturers Association (PVMA), confirmed that the country possesses substantial reserves of both commodities, which are sufficient to meet national consumption demands. “Pakistan will not face any shortage of ghee or edible oil,” he stated, underlining the industry”s readiness to maintain a consistent flow to the market.
The industry leader explained that local producers currently hold ample stocks of raw materials and finished goods. This position is further bolstered by the continuous arrival of import consignments, strengthening the nation’s supply chain.
Multiple maritime shipments carrying edible oil and oilseeds are currently in transit to Pakistan, the PVMA chairman noted. These vessels are expected to dock at various national ports as scheduled, ensuring a prompt distribution to local industries and the wider market.
Production facilities within the country’s ghee and edible oil sector are operating at full capacity, with all activities proceeding normally. Sheikh Umer Rehan emphasised that industry stakeholders are in close liaison with the government and relevant authorities to prevent any disruption to the supply network.
He added that the association is diligently monitoring the evolving regional dynamics and collaborating with governmental bodies to fortify the market. Consumers were reassured that despite the prevailing uncertainty, the availability of these essential items is secure and is anticipated to remain normal in the weeks ahead.
