Eminent Figures Commemorate Major Amanullah Khan’s Multifaceted Legacy of Service and Vision

Prominent personalities from policy, business, and civil society gathered to honor the late Major (r) Amanullah Khan, hailing him as a trailblazing figure whose extensive contributions in public service, economic development, and philanthropy have left an indelible mark on Pakistan.

The condolence reference, held at the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) on Monday, celebrated the life of a man remembered for his unwavering principles, compassion, and visionary leadership. Major Amanullah, who passed away on October 22, 2025, was lauded as an inspiring professional whose generosity touched countless lives.

Speakers at the event included Khalid Rahman, chairman of IPS; Usman Shaukat, president of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Jalil Malik, chairman of the Akhuwat Steering Committee, among many other distinguished colleagues, admirers, and his sons, Ghufran and Jibran Amanullah.

For nearly three decades, Major Amanullah was an instrumental force at IPS. Serving on its National Academic Council, Board of Governors, and Executive Committee, he was pivotal in shaping the institute’s intellectual direction. His strategic foresight guided crucial research on regional cooperation with China, Turkey, and Iran, as well as on key sectors like energy, IT, and foreign policy concerning Afghanistan and Kashmir.

Beyond his role in policy development, his commitment to humanitarian causes was profound. As chairman of Akhuwat’s Steering Committee, he championed Islamic microfinance programs and community upliftment initiatives across northern Pakistan, empowering marginalized communities.

His dynamic leadership also left a lasting impact on the nation’s economic landscape. Major Amanullah served as the president of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry from 1991 to 1992 and made history as the first president of the Islamabad Stock Exchange, a position he held from 1989 to 1994.

Tributes paid during the reference described him as a man of deep conviction, humility, and foresight. He was recalled as a mentor and a guiding force whose ethical leadership and disciplined approach to blending professionalism with purpose continue to inspire all who knew him. His life remains a testament to selfless service and visionary action for the collective good.
