Environment advisor visits tree plantation site

Karachi:Advisor to CM Sindh on Environment, Climate Change, and Coastal Development, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, visited mangroves plantation site on Saturday.

Secretary Environment Muhammad Aslam Ghauri and Director General Sindh Environmental Protection Agency Naeem Ahmed Mughal were also with him. Speaking on the occasion, the adviser said that the provincial environment department had planted mangroves along the coastal strip of Thatta district in collaboration with the private sector. Hundreds of mangroves had been planted on Zephyr Wind Farm, he said and added that the planting of mangroves was one of the top priorities of the Sindh government.

He said: “The presence of a large number of mangroves in coastal areas is important in maintaining the natural marine environment. Mangroves protect the coast from the high waves of the sea and are eco-friendly, so their protection is the responsibility of all of us.” On this occasion he also planted mangroves.
