The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline to November 30, 2025, for manual income tax filers, offering a critical reprieve as the authority moves to completely eliminate paper-based returns from Tax Year 2024 onwards.
In a major policy shift aimed at full digitization, the revenue authority has officially discontinued the manual filing of income tax returns. Acknowledging the challenges some individuals may face with this transition to an online platform, the board has introduced special support measures.
To ensure a smooth changeover, the FBR has established dedicated facilitation cells in all its tax offices throughout the country. These specialized units are tasked with providing both technical and legal guidance to citizens who previously submitted their returns on paper.
The extension was granted under the authority of Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. Filers are encouraged to visit their nearest tax offices to receive complimentary assistance with online registration and the electronic submission of their returns.
Furthermore, the tax body has assured that free legal aid will be available during the current tax year to any filer requiring such support. These initiatives, according to the FBR, underscore its commitment to fostering a more digitized, transparent, and taxpayer-friendly revenue system in Pakistan.
