Five killed, 21 injured as gusty winds hit Karachi

KARACHI:Five people were killed and 21 others injured when strong gusty winds hit Karachi on Friday.

According to rescue sources, minor child Farman suffered severe injuries when a wall fell on him in Orangi Town. He was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he breathed his last. Abdur Rehman, aged 7, was killed due to the wall collapse at Kaneez Fatima Society of Surjani Town.

A man suffered critical injuries when a wall fell on him in North Nazimabad. As a result, he died shortly. One person was killed due to wall collapse in Gulbai area of the city. His body was shifted to a local hospital for medico-legal formalities.

One person died after the wall of a house collapsed in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Maymar area. Two people sustained injuries near Power House Chowrangi after their motorcycle met an accident owing to gusty winds blowing from the opposite direction.

Furthermore, two people sustained injuries at Suparco road in Karachi after a roof of a house collapsed. In another similar incident, a rooftop collapsed in Moach Goth in Baldia, injuring two people. Five people were injured in Gulistan-e-Johar as three bikes collided with each other due to winds. A plastic sheet flew from the roof due to gusty wind and hit seven people in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. They however received slight injuries.

Many signboards and trees were uprooted in the city and the rescue authorities have removed them to clear the roads for traffic. Due to heavy winds, the city temperatures have come down, causing cold.
