Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani today underscored the critical need for Pakistan to transition towards electric vehicles, citing pressing environmental concerns and the necessity of fostering sustainable economic growth.
The call for a strategic shift in the nation’s transport sector was made during a meeting with Hamad Ali Mansoor, the Chief Executive Officer of the Engineering Development Board, who called on him in the capital today.
Mr Gilani proposed the introduction of an indigenously produced “made-in-Pakistan” vehicle under a distinct national brand.
He further suggested that the development of economical electric motorbikes could be key to promoting affordable mobility for citizens and concurrently strengthening the country’s domestic manufacturing base.
Reaffirming the administration”s position, the Acting President reiterated the government”s steadfast commitment to supporting the engineering sector, which he identified as a key driver for industrial development and national economic prosperity.
