Federal Secretary for Science and Technology, Shahid Iqbal Baloch, has underscored the government’s commitment to establishing transparent and merit-based systems within the nation’s scientific institutions, declaring strong accountability mechanisms as pivotal for fostering excellence and innovation.
The call for reform was made during a seminar on Transparency and Accountability in Science and Technology, organised by the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF). The event was designed to showcase progressive measures undertaken by organisations under the administrative control of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST).
In his opening address, the Chairman of the PSF asserted that transparency and accountability are fundamental to building public confidence, enhancing institutional performance, and guaranteeing the efficient use of resources within scientific bodies.
Key scientific organisations, including the PSF, PCSIR, PNAC, and PSQCA, delivered detailed presentations on their internal accountability frameworks. The briefings covered subjects such as e-governance, financial supervision, quality assurance procedures, monitoring and evaluation systems, and adherence to national regulations.
The seminar featured active participation from attending scientists, researchers, and academics, who contributed insights and offered recommendations to further reinforce accountability across the country”s science and technology domain.
The event concluded with a shared pledge from all participants to uphold integrity, transparency, and accountability as core principles for the advancement of science, innovation, and sustainable development in Pakistan.
