HEC Mandates National Centres to Extend Tech Benefits Beyond Urban Hubs

The Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has directed the country’s leading national research centres to expand their reach by collaborating with academic institutions in remote areas, aiming to ensure a broader distribution of the benefits derived from government funding.

According to HEC information today, the directive was issued by Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar during a high-level meeting convened with the directors and project heads of the national centres for Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Robotics.

Discussions during the assembly covered the research activities and operational matters of the specialised centres, which were originally established by the HEC. The Chairman urged the leadership of these hubs to actively showcase their research projects and products. He emphasised the need to highlight their public benefit initiatives, demonstrate the skills being imparted to students and the wider populace, and present their global partnership ventures.

A key focus of the chairman”s address was the encouragement for these advanced centres to initiate partnerships with higher education institutions situated in less-developed regions. Such collaborations are intended to create mutual advantages and facilitate a trickle-down effect of the state”s financial investment.

In support of this push for greater visibility, the HEC leadership agreed to make its official digital and social media platforms available to assist in the dissemination of the centres’ accomplishments and success stories.
