Islamabad: Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, has initiated a project to establish emergency rescue services, including helicopter support, across all motorways and national highways in Pakistan. The initiative aims to expedite aid to accident victims by setting up rescue centers at strategic locations, enhancing the existing 1122 service.
According to a statement by Press Information Department, Abdul Aleem Khan has reached out to the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and the Chief Ministers of all provinces, including Gilgit-Baltistan, seeking their cooperation in this endeavor. The plan involves the National Highway Authority collaborating with provincial governments to establish 174 emergency rescue centers.
These centers, designed to provide rapid transport to hospitals, will be modeled after the existing 1122 center on the M-2 Lahore-Islamabad Motorway. The project underscores a commitment to nationwide safety by extending these services to interchanges and all motorways, with a focus on uniformity in design and functionality.
During a high-level meeting, the Federal Secretary for Communications updated Minister Khan on discussions with provincial chief secretaries. Progress has been made in preparing these centers, with the National Highway Authority and Rescue 1122 working in tandem to implement the plan. The initiative will also encompass regions in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, ensuring comprehensive coverage across Pakistan.
