Hurriyat forum hails UN report on IOK children

Srinagar, June 17, 2020 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has appreciated the UN report on children where the UN General Secretary Antonio Guterres has expressed concern over the continued use of force, particularly against children by India in Jammu and Kashmir.

The forum in a statement issued in Srinagar said the UN report verified the killing of eight and maiming of 15 children between the ages of one year and 17 years during joint operations of the Indian forces in the occupied territory. The forum said that most of the casualties were mainly caused by torture in detention, shootings and firing of pellet guns. The report, the statement said, particularly cites 68 instances where children between the ages of 9 and 17 were detained by Indian forces in Jammu and Kashmir.

The forum also reiterated its appeal to immediately release on humanitarian grounds all Kashmiri prisoners including Hurriyat leaders, activists, youth and children languishing in various Indian jails in view of the rapid spread of COVID 19 pandemic. It said that many local English dailies do not publish Hurriyat statements due to new media policy, announced by Delhi and added that the forum would try to reach the public through social media.
