Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner Vows to Expedite City-Wide Fire Safety Audits and Legal Action

The district administration has warned of legal action against any commercial or industrial building found neglecting mandatory fire safety measures, while inspection teams have been directed to immediately launch audits across the city.

This stern warning was issued during a follow-up meeting on Monday, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Zain-ul-Abideen Memon, convened to expedite the implementation of fire safety protocols in light of the Sindh Chief Minister’s directives.

Mr. Memon reported that lists of buildings have been compiled into three categories-commercial, governmental, and private. He confirmed that 302 commercial buildings have been identified for audit, the results of which will be published under the supervision of the Sindh government.

To ensure implementation, a standardized inspection proforma has been developed for use during field team visits. Buildings lacking essential safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, alarms, and emergency exits will be issued official notices and stern warnings based on the proforma’s findings.

The Deputy Commissioner also emphasized the need to immediately rectify hazards like open electrical wiring, faulty connections, and gas leakages, particularly in densely populated markets and commercial centers. Multi-departmental committees comprising representatives from Town Municipal Corporations, Civil Defence, Fire Brigade, SBCA, and Rescue 1122 have been formed to jointly address these specific issues.

Authorities have been instructed to work tirelessly on this initiative, with special focus on densely populated areas including Taluka Latifabad and Taluka City.

Representatives from the Chambers of Commerce and other trade organizations present at the meeting pledged their full cooperation with the district administration’s efforts.

Concluding the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner reiterated that the administration’s foremost priority is the protection of public life and property, and no negligence regarding fire safety will be tolerated.
