Srinagar, January 28, 2019 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, has strongly condemned the ill-treatment meted out to the Kashmiri prisoners lodged in New Delhi’s infamous Tihar Jail. Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the Kashmiri prisoners were being deprived of basic facilities including medical care and hygienic food that had caused various health issues to them.
He said that despite being political prisoners, they were kept in a very humiliating condition and detained with habitual criminals. He appealed to the International Committee of Red Cross and other world human rights bodies to use their good offices for bringing to an end the long and continued detention of the Kashmiri political detainees.
Senior APHC leader and the Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, in a statement in Srinagar denounced in strong terms the desecration of bodies of two youth martyred by Indian troops in Khonmoh area of Srinagar on Saturday. The bodies of the youth were charred beyond recognition as the troops set ablaze a house in the area by using chemical substance.
The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement, Zafar Akbar Butt, addressing public meetings in Srinagar said that permanent peace in the region could not be ensured without resolving the Kashmir dispute in its historic perspective.
Meanwhile, amid complete shutdown, people held a protest demonstration in Sumbal town of Bandipora district, today, against the arrest of a youth by Delhi Police. The youth, Hilal Ahmed Butt, was arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police, last week. Protests erupted in Chowgal area of Handwara in Kupwara district, today, after a speedy Indian Army vehicle hit a car, leading to the death of a forest officer. Indian police fired teargas shells to disperse the protesters.
Indian troops launched massive cordon and search operations in Shopian and Poonch districts, today. A civilian was critically injured after he was shot at by unidentified gunmen in Tral area of Pulwama district, today.
An Indian policeman committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle at district police lines in Badgam. This incident raised the number of such deaths amongst the Indian troops and police personnel to 421 in occupied Kashmir since January 2007 till date. In Washington, American Sikhs held an anti-India demonstration in front of the Indian embassy building on the occasion of India’s Republic Day. The protesters burnt Indian flag and raised pro-Khalistan and anti-India slogans.
