An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah with a delegation from the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The meeting involved detailed discussions on various public-private partnership projects of the Sindh government.
The 9-member IFC delegation was led by Ms. Linda Rudo Munyengeterwa and included Country Manager Zeeshan Sheikh and Regional Manager Ian Twinn among other experts. Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Principal Secretary Agha Wasif, and other key government figures also attended the meeting.
The Chief Minister of Sindh informed the delegation about the legal and institutional framework of the province’s public-private partnerships and highlighted significant work done by the Sindh government in the sectors of road networks, electricity, education, and health.
The IFC delegation appreciated the Sindh government’s projects and discussed Karachi’s transport and water sanitation issues. The Chief Minister mentioned that the Sindh government is successfully operating the Green Line and Orange Line under the BRT system and that work is ongoing on other projects.
Ms. Linda mentioned IFC’s experiences and the success of over 500 projects worldwide. She also highlighted the benefits of e-buses, stating that they are cost-effective and environmentally friendly.
The IFC proposed a BRT system of 18.3 kilometers for buses in Karachi. The meeting also discussed the issue of water scarcity and suggested installing water treatment plants for industrial use.
