Indian authorities prolonging detention of Aasiya, aides: DeM

Srinagar, March 06, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) has said that the Indian authorities are making deliberate attempts to prolong the illegal detention of its Chairperson, Aasiya Andrabi, and her two associates, Fehmeeda Sofi and Naheeda Nasreen.

A spokesperson of DeM in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the three women leaders were produced before a court of India’s National Investigation Agency in New Delhi on Tuesday. She said despite the fact that all the documents related to the case, as demanded by the court, were in the possession of NIA, but the investigation agency did not produce the same before the court. She said that the court later listed the case for hearing on April 11, 2019.

The spokesperson said that these dirty tactics were being employed to prolong the custody of Aasiya Andrabi and her associates and keep them under detention. “Since the courts know that nothing can be proved against Aasiya Andrabi, Fehmeeda Sofi and Naheeda Nasreen, these dilly-dallying tactics are being used to keep them behind the bars,” she added. The DeM spokesperson urged the international human rights organizations including the Amnesty International to play an effective role in the release of Aasiya Andrabi and her associates.
