The Supreme Court of India has raised questions about the timing of the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate, especially considering its proximity to the upcoming parliamentary elections. The court queried the rationale behind the arrest which occurred on March 21, linked to allegations concerning a liquor policy case. According to Kashmir Media Service, during the hearing of Kejriwal’s petition against his arrest, the bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta emphasized the critical nature of “life and liberty,” questioning the enforcement agency’s actions without clear evidence of Kejriwal’s direct involvement in the alleged misconduct. The court demanded that the Enforcement Directorate clarify its position and demonstrate the necessity of the arrest before the general elections.
