Initiatives for welfare of working class to be continued: Turi

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Sajid Hussain Turi has said that they are working day and night for the welfare of working class and will continue to take initiatives for their wellbeing.

He said this while chairing a meeting in which he was briefed by Chairperson and other senior officials of Employees of Old age Benefits Institution (EOBI) here in Islamabad on Thursday.

The meeting was also attended by Secretary, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development. The Minister said that we will also be taking practical steps in this regard since he is well aware of the problems of pensioners.

He said computerization of data and digitalization of the institution would facilitate better operations. He said the Ministry for Overseas and Human Rights Development (HRD) will provide every possible assistance in this connection and the existing software of the institution which has become outdated would soon be updated and replaced with the more robust system.

Earlier, while receiving a briefing the Minister was informed that Board of Trustees (BOT) has set a challenging target of Rs33.50 billion of contribution collection, however, the massive shortfall in the manpower has been the major problem in EOBI’s achieving the challenging targets.

Currently the organization is working with 308 officers against a strength of 751. They also briefed the Minister about the delay in projects due to various reasons. The Minister issued directions for early resolution of all issues and early completion of the projects.

Similarly the Minister assured that we would soon initiate a process to hire new staff to address the issue of manpower shortfall in the institution. He said Pakistan People Party (PPP) represents the working and labour class of the country therefore it is our foremost priority to undertake initiative welfare of the people.
