IRSA is not discharging duties perfectly: CM

LARKANA: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said Saturday that Indus River System Authority (IRSA) is not discharging its duties perfectly and we have placed our stance before the Council of Common Interests (CCI).

He was talking to newsmen at Kashmore after offering condolences with Saleem Jan Mazari at Mazari House over the death of his mother. The CM said that Sindh had received Rs106 billion less from the federal government in the FY-2020-21 budget. He said they had never heard of gas shortage in summer, but presently, such scarcity in this PTI government had occurred.

He said in 2007, they were unable to come here due to bad law and order situation in these areas. He said there were some issues in riverine areas of Kashmore and Shikarpur but even then, he added, the law and order situation was better.

In reply to a question, Shah said that water shortage was being faced in Sindh this year but IRSA was not doing its work properly. He said they had been demanding that water shortage should be shared on equal basis in accordance with the 1991 Water Treaty but it was not being done. He said he had been raising this stance since 2018 before the CCI, but justice was not being done.

He said they were not asking for charity but demanding their constitutional rights. CM Shah alleged that from tax recovery to everything, Center was not doing its job rightfully as the losses were faced by the provinces. He said Center had so far changed four finance ministers and now it was feared that if the present finance minister failed, then Naveed Qamar would be demanded.

Earlier, Murad Ali Shah visited Jacobabad where he offered condolences with Aijaz Jakhrani over the death of his aunt. He was accompanied by advisor Shabir Ali Bijarani, Mukesh Chawla, MPA Sharjeel Inam Memon, Imdad Pitafi, Malik Asad Sikander, Suhrab Sarki and other PPP leaders.
