Ishaq Dar appears before court in NAB assets case

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Ishaq Dar appeared before an accountability court of the federal capital on Wednesday in the assets reference, right after taking oath of office as federal minister.

He apprised the court that his passport was cancelled by the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, and all embassies had also been instructed to not issue a new passport to him, thus he remained unable to appear before the court.

He stated that despite his poor health condition, he wanted to return but couldn’t due to cancellation of his passport. He said as soon as he has been issued a passport by the incumbent government, he came back. During the hearing, the accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir issue notice to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Dar’s plea seeking cancellation of the arrest warrant against him. Later, the court adjourned the hearing until October 7.

While talking to media after adjournment of the case, Dar claimed that the case against him was ‘false’ and politically motivated. He said he has always submitted his tax returns on time. He aid Panama case and others also massively dented Pakistan’s stability. Dar returned to Pakistan on Monday after spending almost five years in self-exile in the United Kingdom. He had left the country in 2017.
