The Islamabad Police have launched an intensive crackdown on criminal elements across the capital in the current year, resulting in significant progress on multiple fronts, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Muhammad Jawad Tariq said on Friday.
He said a total of 1,556 suspects have been arrested so far, and stolen property worth over Rs650 million has been recovered during various operations.
He said police also dismantled 247 criminal gangs involved in robberies, street crimes, and vehicle theft, arresting 553 of their members. As a result, 124 vehicles and 269 motorcycles, worth millions of rupees, were recovered.
Highlighting the police department’s swift response to serious crimes, DIG Islamabad noted that three major murder cases – including a double murder – were successfully solved in a short span of time.
He said due to these proactive efforts, the overall crime rate in Islamabad has dropped by 20% this year. Additionally, the Islamabad Police traced 1,067 cases and submitted complete challans to the relevant courts.
DIG Muhammad Jawad Tariq reaffirmed that Islamabad Police remain fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of citizens around the clock. He emphasized that protecting lives and property of the public remains the department’s top priority.
