Karachi and Shanghai Forge New Path of Cooperation

Mayor of Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, met with Shanghai’s Mayor Gong Zheng to explore investment opportunities and educational exchanges. The discussions centered on enhancing bilateral relations, with a focus on infrastructure development, waste-to-energy projects, and urban services.

Mayor Wahab invited Chinese investors to engage in Karachi’s growth initiatives, emphasizing the city’s role as a potential hub for international collaboration. He also announced scholarships for Chinese students through Karachi Metropolitan University to bolster educational and cultural connections.

A public space in Karachi will be developed in honor of the Chinese people and Chairman Mao Zedong, as announced by Mayor Wahab. Both leaders committed to long-term cooperation and agreed to seek further collaborative opportunities in various sectors.

The Karachi delegation included S. M. Afzal Zaidi, Municipal Commissioner; Gulzar Abro, Financial Advisor, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation; and Mehdi Maloof, Senior Director of Culture and Sports. During the meeting, Mayor Wahab presented a traditional Ajrak and a souvenir to Mayor Gong Zheng, symbolizing the friendship between the two cities.
