The worldwide Kashmiri community will observe Jammu Martyrs’ Day on Thursday, November 6, a day that marks one of the darkest chapters in their history, when allegedly hundreds of thousands of Muslims were killed in the Jammu region in the first week of November 1947.
The primary purpose of observing this day is to strengthen the resolve for the ongoing struggle for the right to self-determination, a right which, according to them, is recognized by the United Nations.
It is expected that the day will be observed by Kashmiri populations worldwide, including those residing on both sides of the Line of Control.
According to the narrative associated with this day, this large-scale massacre occurred as the population was migrating towards Pakistan. Historical accounts cited by observers allege that the killings were carried out by the army of the Dogra ruler, Maharaja Hari Singh, in collaboration with the Indian army and armed RSS extremists.
