Islamabad, May 05, 2018 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Defense Engr. Khurram Dastgir Khan has arrived Dushanbe, Tajikistan in order to represent Pakistan in the high level International Conference on ” Countering Terrorism and Preventing Violent Extremism. The Conference is organized by the Government of Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with the United Nations. Federal Minister delivered Pakistan statement at Dushanbe high level conference. Defence Minister, Engr. Khurram Dastgir Khan met with his Tajik counterpart Lieutenant General Sher Ali Mirzo. Federal Minister expressed well wishes for the military and civil leadership of the Tajikistan and its people.
He highlighted that being neighbours of Afghanistan both Pakistan and Tajikistan are facing similar security challenges and threats. Pakistan believes in peaceful resolution of all issues and appreciates the efforts to Tajikistan in promotion of peace and stability in the region. Defence Minister mentioned that CPEC would further provide new and unique opportunities for enhancing connectivity and integration from Gwadar to Kashgar and Muryhab in Tajikistan.
Engr.Khurram Dastgir Khan, proposed that new avenues of defence cooperation may be explored as Pakistan has adequately advance defence industries, producing quality products. He also Offered avenues for working out mechanisms for accelerating intelligence cooperation through high level interaction and exchange of military delegation/training of their Armed Forces in order to fight terrorism. Defence Minister also met Vladimir Voronkov, United Nations Under Secretary General for counter-terrorism, on the sideline of the Dushanbe Conference.
