LG minister inspects cleaning work of storm water drains

KARACHI: Sindh Minister Information and Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has directed official to expedite the pace of cleaning of drains and complete them before the rains so that rain water smoothly passes through the storm water drains towards Arabian Sea.

 

The minister gave these direction while inspection of cleaning campaign of city’s storm water drains on Tuesday. Secretary Local Government Syed Najam Shah, Managing Director Sindh Solid Waste Management Board Zubair Chana and others also accompanied the minister. The minister inspected PIDC, city railway station, stock exchange, regal chowk, police line garden, and zehri nullah Shahra-e- Faisal.

 

He directed that it should be ensured that garbage taken out from nullah, must be shifted to landfill sites and in case of failure, the payments to contractor should be withheld. During his visit to nullah near police line garden, the minister added that police line was inundated during last monsoon season due to over flowing of this nullah and said residents of the area faced enormous difficulties and such situation should be happened this year.

 

Shah also inspected the cleaning work of furniture market nullah near nursery Shahra-e-Faisal and directed to monitor the choking points and keep choking points clear. He said that due to choking of furniture market nullah problems were faced by the commuters of Shahra-e-Faisal. He also inspected the under construction nullah in Gulistan Zafar executed by KDA and met with the residents of area. He directed the KDA official to complete the construction work of the nullah and connect it to main storm water drain.
