Srinagar, October 28, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, life continues to remain far from being normal in the Kashmir Valley and Muslim majority areas of Jammu region on the 85th running of Indian military lockdown and gag on internet imposed on 5th August.
Restrictions remain enforced while internet across all platforms and prepaid cellular services are suspended. An informal but widespread civil disobedience movement remains in effect across the Kashmir Valley in protest against the Indian occupation of Jammu and Kashmir and New Delhi’s recent action. Shopkeepers keep their shops shut for most part of the day, students stay away from schools and public transport is hardly seen on the roads.
In negation of India’s own claim about normalcy in the occupied territory, the authorities did not allow people to participate in the night-long prayers at Chrar-e-Sharief in Budgam district. The devotees who had come from various areas of Kashmir valley to participate in the prayers at the shrine of popular Islamic scholar, Noorudin Wali (RA) were not allowed by Indian troops to enter the shrine. The authorities had sealed the area day before the celebrations commenced.
At least six people were injured in a grenade attack near bus stand in Sopore area of Baramulla district, today. Indian forces cordoned off the area and started house-to-house search operation.
Meanwhile, anti-India protest demonstrations were held in two main European capitals, London and Brussels, to mark the 27th October, the day India occupied Jammu and Kashmir in 1947, as black day. The participants of the protest demonstration held at 10 Downing Street in London submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister office urging the British government to raise the issue at the UN Security Council to redress the miseries of the Kashmiri people.
Another protest demonstration organized by Kashmir Council Europe outside the Indian Embassy in Brussels asked the Indian government to lift restrictions, withdraw its forces from Kashmir and grant the people of Kashmir their right to self-determination.
On the other hand, a 28-member delegation of European parliamentarians is scheduled to visit occupied Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow. European Parliament member, BN Dunn, who is part of the delegation, in a tweet in New Delhi said that the delegation wants to see on the ground how it actually is and talk to some local people in Kashmir.
