Authorities in the federal capital on Sunday arrested two individuals, including an Afghan national, after confiscating a significant consignment of more than 2,700 kites and hundreds of spools of lethal chemical string from a passenger bus.
According to Islamabad police report, the seizure was made by the Lohi Bher police team during a search of a bus travelling from Peshawar to Gujranwala. The operation is part of an ongoing, indiscriminate crackdown on the sale of kites, following special directives from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.
In total, the police team recovered 472 spools of various types of chemical string, over 2,700 kites, and other related items from the possession of the apprehended suspects.
A case has been formally registered against the accused, and a further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
SSP Operations Islamabad, Qazi Ali Raza, described kite flying as an illegal and life-threatening activity. He stated that the chemical-coated string poses a serious danger to innocent children, motorcyclists, and pedestrians.
The SSP issued an appeal to parents, urging them to strictly prevent their children from engaging in kite flying and using the hazardous string, encouraging them to demonstrate responsibility as law-abiding citizens.
He added that the Islamabad Police, with the cooperation of the public, are utilising all available resources to make the federal capital a safe and peaceful city, and that firm action against lawbreakers will continue.
