Mirwaiz reviews arrangements for martyrdom week

Srinagar, May 08, 2019 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chaired a joint meeting of Awami Action Committee (AAC), Anjuman-e-Auqaf (AeA) Jamia Masjid and Anjuman-e-Nusratul Islam (ANI) in Srinagar to finalize the programmes in connection with the upcoming Martyrdom Week (Hafta-e-Shahadat) commencing from May 16.

The Martyrdom Week is observed to pay glowing tributes to prominent martyred Hurriyat leaders, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone and the victims of Hawal massacre of May 21, 1990. Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Srinagar on 21st of May 1990. 70 mourners were killed in Hawal area of the city when Indian troops opened fire on his funeral procession. On the same day, in 2002, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone was killed by unknown assailants when he was returning from Eidgah after addressing a public gathering.

A statement issued after the meeting said that all the members of Awami Action Committee, Anjuman-e-Auqaf Jamia Masjid and Anjuman-e-Nusratul Islam attended the meet. They deliberated upon giving final touches to the programme in connection with the Martyrdom Week. All the participants stated that as per the tradition, this year also, the Week would be observed with the same passion and zeal. “The day-wise programmes of the Martyrdom Week will, however, be issued separately,” the statement said.
