Srinagar, Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) Jammu and Kashmir, an association of religious bodies led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has taken serious note of a news item in media that a non-local medical student at the Government Medical College, Srinagar, posted blasphemous remarks against the holy prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on a caller app and strongly condemned it.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the MMU in a statement in Srinagar said such an incident is unacceptable to Muslims and that such blasphemous remarks will not be tolerated.
The MMU asked the management of the college and authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly to determine if it is a deliberate attempt to instigate and hurt the religious feelings of Muslims and take stern action accordingly.
This is not the first time that such an incident has occurred, as a similar incident took place at NIT last year. The MMU said that insulting a particular religious community and its revered figures—the hallmark of a certain hate-based ideological movement in India—is spreading its influence in Jammu and Kashmir, a region that has always upheld religious coexistence and respect for all faiths. This ploy will not be allowed to succeed here, it added.
