Nationwide ‘Week of Prayer’ to be observed from today for Aafia Siddiqui’s release from US captivity

Renowned neurophysician and Chairperson of the Aafia Movement, Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui, announced today that a nationwide “Week of Prayer” will be observed from November 10 to 16 for the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui from captivity in the United States.

Titled “Prayer for Aafia’s Release,” the week-long campaign aims to garner spiritual support for the “daughter of the nation.” Dr. Fowzia has appealed to religious scholars, mosque imams, and the public across the country to organize special prayers.

This prayer appeal has been extended to mosques, seminaries, offices, and homes, focusing on prayers for Dr. Aafia’s well-being and swift return.

The initiative was announced on Sunday following a consultative meeting held at Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui’s residence, where participants discussed strategies related to Dr. Aafia’s case.

In her address, Dr. Fowzia made a religious reference, stating that Allah Almighty rescued Prophet Yunus (Jonah) from the belly of the fish through the recitation of the Ayat-e-Karima. She requested citizens to hold special prayer gatherings and recite this verse for the freedom of their sister from the “dark cell of a US prison.”
