Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that no one would be allowed to disturb the public under the guise of protests. The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is responsible for Parachinar incident, but the people of Karachi and the Sindh government are suffering the consequences.
According to a statement issued today, hee mentioned that an FIR had been filed against those wasting water, and he would soon disclose the names of individuals who are causing harm to the city. He also promised a comprehensive press conference in one to two days about the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation. The administration of Trans Karachi has assured him that the Red Line project will be completed as soon as possible.
He said Barrister Murtaza Wahab has give hope to the people in 2024 and that they have made the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation financially stable. He added that he shares a long-standing relationship with Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, but he believes that problems cannot be solved in the style of “Maula Jatt.” He mentioned that Karachi’s first fruit farm had been established in Aziz Bhatti Park and that a changing Karachi can be seen.
Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab expressed these views while talking to the media after inauguration of fruit and vegetable farm and urban forest in the Aziz Bhatti park on Saturday. Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad and KMC officials were also present on this occasion.
Mayor Karachi said on December 27, the anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was observed, and today, trees were planted in Aziz Bhatti Park as a tribute to the martyrs, People’s Party’s ideology is that public spaces should belong to the public.
He said that the Malir Expressway would be opened to the public from Shah Faisal Colony to Qayumabad in the next few days, and the remaining portion of the Baloch Colony Expressway would also be completed soon. Work is also ongoing on the Korangi Causeway bridge. Barrister Wahab also promised to update the public about the financial resources of KMC. He stated that recent tenders published in newspapers and other ongoing works would bring relief to the citizens of Karachi. He emphasized that Karachi would move forward and not step back.
He added that if an educational institution like a school were to be built on the site of a sports complex, the NAB would ask questions. The Mayor emphasized that it is better to build essential infrastructure rather than allow illegal constructions like “China Cutting” and wedding halls. He also suggested that Jamaat-e-Islami’s funds should be audited and questioned where they get their money from. He remarked that if Jamaat-e-Islami is given the charge of water corporation, it would only benefit their areas. He criticized them for saying they have no funds while claiming that exemplary work is being done in their towns. He pointed out that work on roads in New Karachi was being undone by road cutting, and questioned who allowed it.
He also stated that negotiations are ongoing with the protesters and that he had spoken with Provincial Minister Nasar Hussain Shah about it. Barrister Wahab mentioned that during the meeting of Trans Karachi on December 26, staff shortage issues were addressed. He also expressed that he would advise Governor Kamran Tessori to guide MQM members to support the idea of heavy traffic on the Lyari Expressway as it would ease traffic congestion. He highlighted the importance of regulating dumper trucks by the traffic department to prevent accidents, as many deaths have occurred due to dumper-related incidents.
