Pasban Democratic Party Vice Chairman Azam Minhas criticized the Sindh government’s new number plate initiative, calling it a futile attempt to divert attention from serious issues. He said the government should prioritize issues like dilapidated roads, persistent traffic jams, inadequate public transport, and alleged corruption within the traffic police. Minhas termed these as the real issues needing urgent attention, unlike the number plate change. He also objected to the forced cultural imposition of the Sindhi Ajrak, stating that cultural adoption should be organic, not enforced. The vice chairman termed the number plate change a pointless exercise and misuse of public funds that would further burden the already troubled masses.
Minhas warned against imposing this measure on the public and threatened a large-scale protest movement if necessary. He questioned the logic of changing functional number plates, especially considering that many citizens had recently changed their plates to comply with previous regulations, which are now being deemed unacceptable. The expected replacement of number plates for 1.2 million registered vehicles in Karachi was termed a mischievous scheme. Minhas stated that if the government insists on the new plates, they should be provided free of cost to avoid further financial burden on the public. He demanded an end to the alleged harassment of citizens over this matter.
