Owaisi Criticizes Modi Government for Altering Babri Masjid Description in Textbooks

Hyderabad, Asaduddin Owaisi, the chief of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has publicly condemned the BJP-led government’s decision to describe the Babri Masjid as a “three-domed structure” in class 12 political science textbooks.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the revision made by the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT), which operates under the Indian Ministry of Education, omits the historical name “Babri Masjid” from the textbooks. Owaisi, voicing his dissent on the social media platform X, criticized the NCERT’s choice of words and its portrayal of the Ayodhya judgment as a ‘consensus.’ He argued that such changes misrepresent the historical and legal reality of the mosque’s demolition in 1992—a event the Indian Supreme Court labeled as an “egregious criminal act.”

The rephrasing in educational material has sparked controversy, highlighting ongoing tensions and debates surrounding historical narratives in India.
