Dengue fever claims one more life in Karachi

KARACHI:Dengue fever claimed the life of a youngster at a private hospital of Karachi, taking the death toll from this mosquito-borne disease to six since 01 Jan 2019.

Spokesperson Prevention and Control Program of Dengue (PCPD) Sindh, said a 19-year-old youngster, Nawab Wasif, a resident of New Muzaffarabad Colony in Landhi area of Karachi was brought to Aga Khan Hospital (AKU) few days back with dengue fever, who died due to this mosquito-borne disease.

The principal diagnosis and reason of admission was a dengue shock syndrome with complications, multiple organ dysfunctions and other troubles.

This dengue has claimed six lives this year so far out of which three were female and three male.

In 2019, a total of 1,225 dengue cases have been reported in Sindh province so far out of them, 1164 were in Karachi and 61 in other districts.

Talking to PPI, Program Manager, PCPD Sindh, Dr Mehmood Iqbal, informed that that larvicidal activity, school awareness, community education and other activities had been launched across the Sindh province, particularly in Karachi to sensitize the general public about the disease.

He further informed that PCPD teams were visiting different sites to control mosquitoes breeding points following monsoon rains.

Minister: (Law Ministry drafts 22 laws during last year: Farogh Naseem)

ISLAMABAD:Law Ministry drafted a total of twenty two laws over the last one year with the aim to ensure speedy justice to the people and enhance the efficiency of the judicial system.

This was stated by Law Minister Farogh Naseem at a news conference along with Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan and Parliamentary Secretary for Law Malika Bukhari here on Wednesday, sharing details of the one year performance of the Law Ministry.

The Law Minister said that seven of the bills have already been passed whilst the remaining seven to eight are before the standing committees or the National Assembly for passage. He said we also introduced eight ordinances.

He said the Standing Committee on Law today passed the Civil Procedure (Amendment) bill which will ensure speedy trial of civil cases.

He said the cases which earlier used to consume thirty to forty years will now be settled in a matter of one or one and a half year under this bill.

The Law Minister said we have also formulated a bill that will ensure issuance of succession certificate to the people in a matter of fifteen days. He said our Whistle blower act envisages reward of 20 per cent for those who would help recover illegal wealth.

He said under this act, the name of information provider will be kept secret. He said the women protection bill will ensure right of women of in heritance. He said there is also a Legal Aid and Justice Authority bill which will provide free legal aid to the poor people including women and children.

He said the Mutual Legal Assistance Bill will regulate the procedure for rendering and soliciting mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.

Farogh Naseem said Pakistan Code envisaging eight hundred and forty eight laws have been uploaded on the website of the law ministry and the people now can easily access it. He said this is a first step towards provision of justice to the people at their doorsteps.

He said an app has also been prepared which will contain the archives of the last seventy two years. He said amendments in the NAB laws are also being considered. He said the power of bail will be granted to the trial court under the amendments.

In addition it will be ensured that nobody could abuse the plea bargain or voluntary return options. In her remarks, Firdous Ashiq Awan said the people had voted the PTI to power to break the status quo and bring change in their lives.

She said the law ministry introduced the law reforms in line with the requirements of the nation.

Parliamentary Secretary for Law Malika Ali Bukhari said the law ministry has also prepared a five year women protection plan to provide justice to women.

She said this plan envisages fifty five steps for the welfare of the women folk. He said under this plan, a detailed asset and burn crime bill and Christian divorce bill will also be formulated.

Sindh GP Fund Centre opens

KARACHI:The Accountant General Sindh, Ghufran Memon Wednesday inaugurated Sindh GP Fund Centre in Kashmore @ Kandhkot, Jacobabad and Shikarpur.

He announced that the Sindh GP Fund Centers will also be established throughout all districts of Sindh by 31st August 2019.

GP Fund cases of more than 500,000 employees of Sindh will be updated and computerized so that they may get their GP fund payments without any hassle and delay.

Governor: (Oversees Pakistanis pride, asset of our country: Governor)

ISLAMABAD:Punjab Governor Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar has said that oversees Pakistanis are pride and asset of our country.

He said this while talking to a delegation of the Pakistani origin British Police officers in Lahore on Wednesday.

He said under a programme, the Pakistani-origin UK police officers will impart training on scientific techniques investigation to provincial police.

The Governor said the government is bringing about changes in the “Thana culture” in order to introduce reforms police station.

Choked water lines outside NICVD-NICH torment patients

KARACHI:The choked water supply lines outside National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and National Institute of Child Health (NICH)are causing grave inconvenience to the visiting patients and also hampering movement of ambulances.

The choked water supply lines have doubled the miseries for the patients and medical staff since few days. Around 5000 to 7000 patients visit different OPDs of both institutions each day for treatment and consultation, but stagnant water has created a nuisance to the patients and hampered vehicles’ movement.

The ambulance drivers are also facing great hardships in shifting the patients with cardiac and pediatric requirement in emergency department.

The doctors, paramedical staff and nurses are also facing great hardships due to the choke water lines that need to be cleansed. Administrative Officer, NICVD, Dr Malik Hameedullah, was not available for comments.

FO: (Pakistan to take issue of human rights violations in occupied Kashmir to ICJ)

ISLAMABAD:Pakistan has decided to take the issue of human rights violation in occupied Kashmir to International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi while talking to a private news channel confirmed that an in-principle decision has been taken to take the issue of dispute of Kashmir to the International Court of Justice.

He said the decision of reaching out to ICJ was taken after considering all legal aspects. The Foreign Minister said that additional information regarding the matter would also be issued by the law ministry.
