Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, and Kazakhstan’s Ambassador Yerzhan Kistafin have agreed to strengthen maritime ties in a bid to enhance regional trade and connectivity.

During the meeting here today, Minister Junaid Chaudhry emphasized the strategic importance of developing regional linkages to facilitate trade and economic growth, highlighting the potential benefits for Kazakhstan, a landlocked nation, in leveraging Pakistan’s extensive port infrastructure and integrated transport networks.

The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in maritime trade, infrastructure development, and sustainable maritime practices. Federal Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to transforming its ports into major centers of global trade by adopting innovative solutions and strengthening international partnerships.

Ambassador Kistafin recognized Pakistan’s strategic location and advanced port facilities as critical gateways for Kazakhstan to access broader markets, emphasizing the potential for economic integration across Central and South Asia.

Both parties agreed on the necessity of streamlining logistics, optimizing trade corridors, and exploring joint ventures in port modernization. Updates were provided on ongoing development initiatives at Karachi Port Trust, Port Qasim Authority, and Gwadar Port Authority, with an invitation extended to Kazakhstan to participate actively in these projects.

Environmental sustainability was another focal point, with Minister Junaid Chaudhry underscoring Pakistan’s efforts in promoting green shipping and protecting coastal ecosystems. Workforce development and cultural exchange were also identified as vital components in strengthening bilateral ties.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to establish working groups dedicated to implementing collaborative projects promptly.

Ambassador Kistafin lauded Pakistan’s maritime leadership and pledged Kazakhstan’s support in deepening cooperation, reflecting a shared vision for an integrated regional trade network that positions Pakistan as a central maritime bridge between Central and South Asia.
