The Pakistan Institute of Hockey (PIH) has today announced a comprehensive electoral process for its top leadership positions, taking a significant step towards the revival of the country’s national sport. The institute’s elections will be held on April 25. Gul Faraz Ahmed Khan has been appointed as the Election Commissioner.
According to the newly appointed commissioner, the election schedule for the positions of Director General Operations, Chairman, President, and General Secretary has been established. Nomination papers can be submitted until April 16, while the final list of candidates will be released on April 20 after scrutiny. The elections will be held on April 25.
These decisions were finalized during an important meeting of the PIH Convener Committee, where senior figures pledged to work selflessly for the promotion of hockey.
The Institute’s Convener, Rana Mushtaq Ahmed, said, “All our colleagues have put their personal interests aside and have sincerely begun the struggle to raise Pakistan’s national flag high on the hockey fields, and will use all their abilities for this purpose.”
Ambassador of Hockey, Professor Rao Javed Iqbal, addressing the meeting, said, “Serving the national sport with a national spirit is an act of worship.” He emphasized the organization’s apolitical history, stating, “Our past is a testament to the fact that we have always played a supportive role for the Pakistan Hockey Federation, never seeking positions or power, nor allowing our reputation to be tarnished by political stains.”
During the meeting, the committee also approved the annual plan for 2026-27.
The meeting was attended by Gul Faraz Ahmed Khan, Syed Musharraf Ali Shah, Zahid Shahab, Muhammad Akram Qaim Khani, Azeem Ahmed Khan Advocate, Junaid Ahmed Khan, Imtiaz Shaikh, Asghar Ali, and Uzma. Muhammad Akhlaq, Senior Manager of TPL Trakker Ltd., attended as a special guest.
