Pakistan Invites Georgia to Islamabad Summit Amid Push for Stronger Parliamentary Ties

In a significant diplomatic overture, Pakistan has extended a formal invitation to the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament to attend a major conference in Islamabad, signaling a concerted effort to fortify the relationship between the two nations. The invitation came during a pivotal meeting between Pakistan’s Chairman Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, and Georgian Deputy Speaker Nino Tsilosani, held on the sidelines of the International Parliamentary Conference in Azerbaijan.

The high-level discussion focused on strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation, according to a communiqué issued by the Senate Secretariat on Friday. Both dignitaries explored new avenues for partnership, underscoring a mutual commitment to deepen the connection between Pakistan and Georgia.

Chairman Gilani reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to bolstering its friendly association with Georgia, emphasizing that the bond is built on a foundation of respect, trust, and shared goals for peace and development. He highlighted Islamabad’s high regard for its ties with Tbilisi, particularly in the fields of trade, education, and culture.

The Senate Chairman also expressed a desire for increased people-to-people contact and improved economic connectivity, which would pave the way for more robust engagement between the two countries.

Stressing the crucial role of legislative diplomacy, Gilani described it as an effective instrument for fostering mutual understanding and collaboration. He proposed more dynamic interaction between the parliamentary friendship groups and standing committees of both countries to exchange best practices and develop coordinated strategies for regional and global challenges.

The invitation was for the upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), which the Senate of Pakistan is scheduled to host in Islamabad from November 10-12, 2025. Gilani noted that the summit would serve as a vital platform for dialogue on peace, progress, and inter-parliamentary teamwork.

The dialogue concluded with both sides restating their resolve to work in close coordination to further elevate bilateral cooperation and to support each other in various regional and international forums.
