Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi today announced that two billion dollars in financing has been secured through an agreement with the Asian Development Bank for the extensive upgradation of the five hundred-kilometer Karachi-Rohri railway track.

Speaking to media persons in Rawalpindi , Abbasi detailed that the groundbreaking for this major project is anticipated to take place in June or July of next year, with a projected completion timeline of two and a half years.

The minister also revealed plans for the enhancement of the eight hundred and eighty-four-kilometer Nokundi-Rohri track, which is slated to be completed within a three-year period.

In addition to the track improvements, Pakistan Railways is actively expanding its fleet with new trains and wagons, according to the minister.

Abbasi confirmed that a broader modernization initiative is underway, involving the refurbishment of existing trains and the upgrading of rail stations to provide superior facilities for passengers. He added that efforts are also in progress to introduce Wifi connectivity at different stations.
