Pakistan-Somalia Parliamentary Friendship Group meets Ambassador of Somalia to Pakistan 

Islamabad, September 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):Ms. Nafeesa Inayatullah Khattak, MNA and Convener of Pakistan-Somalia Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) met with H.E. Mrs. Khadija Mohamed Almakhzoumi, Ambassador of Somalia to Pakistan on Wednesday, 29th September, 2021 at 1430 hours at Parliament House, Islamabad.

The agenda of the meeting was to discuss the ongoing bilateral relationship between Pakistan and Somalia. The two sides discussed matters pertaining to bilateral cooperation. The Somalian ambassador expressed her desire to expand cooperation with Pakistan in multiple areas including trade, human resource development, defence and security.

The Somalian ambassador mentioned that National Database and Registration Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Somalia for the provision of NADRA services to Somalia earlier. As part of the initiative, National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) would develop and supply technology, software and equipment to enable the Government of Somalia to have a state-of-the-art national data and citizen registration system.

The ‘knowledge and technology transfer would also help Somalia in Border Management and Elections Management system. She requested assistance to speed up this work. Ms. Nafeesa Inayatullah Khattak said that the signing of the NADRA contract is of great significance and would help in further enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries. The project complemented the government’s “Look Africa” policy for enhanced engagement with the African continent.

Ms. Nafeesa Inayatullah Khattak highlighted that Parliamentary Friendship Groups of both countries can play a pivotal role in promoting parliamentary diplomacy, people-to-people contacts and promoting parliamentary relations through parliamentary exchanges from both countries. She thanked the Ambassador of Somalia and affirmed her commitment to further strengthen and deepen bilateral ties.
