Parliamentary Caucus Pushes for Unified Strategy in Polio Fight

A crucial assembly of the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights (PCCR) convened on Tuesday to chart an effective strategy for eradicating polio in Pakistan, aligning with Agenda Item 2 of the 18th Speakers’ Conference held last December.

During the session, participants highlighted the pressing need for a cohesive and all-encompassing plan to tackle the persistent polio challenge in the nation. The discussions culminated in several key recommendations aimed at refining the national polio strategy. These include legislative and policy reforms to bolster institutional frameworks and the establishment of an Inter-Provincial Parliamentary Taskforce for synchronized provincial efforts.

Additionally, the strategy emphasizes school-based vaccination and awareness initiatives to enhance outreach among youngsters, alongside community advocacy campaigns to counter misinformation and garner local backing. Ensuring sustainable funding and resource mobilization through budgetary oversight was also deemed essential.

PCCR members reiterated their steadfast dedication to eliminating polio from Pakistan, vowing to collaborate with both domestic and international partners to fulfill this vital public health objective.

The meeting was attended by key figures including PCCR Convenor Dr. Nikhat Shakeel Khan, Secretary Women’s Parliamentary Caucus Dr. Shahida Rehmani, Treasurer WPC Ms. Shahida Begum, among others like MNAs Syeda Shehla Raza, Ms. Rana Ansar, Ms. Sofia Saeed Shah, Ms. Shaheen, Ms. Zainab Mehmood Baloch, and Ms. Kiran Haider.
